Yesterday, as I was waiting for an update to download on my computer, I was looking through my Mac’s Photobooth app and was completely shocked to see how terrible my skin used to be. I also spent some time deleting Photobooth photos with exes, because WHO NEEDS THAT NEGATIVITY IN HER LIFE? (: These incredibly embarrassing photos I’m about to show you are mostly from college and my first year of teaching high school, before I turned to a cleaner way of eating. I mean, in college, we’re all just trying to work enough to afford groceries and bills, right? So I didn’t really  have the money – or the knowledge – to buy organic veggies, grass-fed beef, and raw cashews. I was still eating plenty of gluten and dairy. I was stressed. And MAN, could you tell that I was doing something wrong in these photos and not taking care of myself! (I’m also never smiling because who has time to smile when you’re working 20 hours a week and taking 6 classes and trying to run a side-hustle? Or when you’re teaching 150 high school juniors and seniors why a thesis is important and how to cite quotations and why they should care enough to graduate?)

You can also see that I changed my hair every few months (: Ombre, feathers, teal, blonde, dark brown… I had my nose pierced which I still dearly miss (the hoop). I call it my Experimental Period. I think I’m still in it.

Some of the photos aren’t so bad – just a few blemishes here and there. BUT THAT FIRST ONE. It’s painful to look at. Why did I take a photo of my face like that? I don’t know, but I’m glad I did, because I can look back and see how far I’ve come with self-care and making healthy choices.

My skin is much happier now that I’m making time to take care of it – and I only have been focusing specifically on daily skin care for a week and a half now. As I mentioned in my DIY Calendula Lavender Clay Mask post, I use this Skin Rescue (I’m about to share with you) post-mask on my face and I’m seeing a dramatic difference.

See? Smiling now.

I was debating whether or not to post this, or keep it for an e-mail for my e-mail subscribers, but I’m going to post it because it WORKS for me. If you struggle with acne, rosacea, stretch marks, bumps from staph, wrinkles, and many other skin issues, this is your catch-all, along with your diet. There are only three simple ingredients… you might even have a few of them in your cupboards right now!

What You’ll Need:

-4oz jelly jar
-3.5 oz Coconut oil
-2t Sweet almond oil
-20 drops Tea Tree or Melaleuca oil

All you need to do is mix the ingredients together in your jelly jar and you’re done! I used my hands, because the body warmth melted the coconut oil enough for everything to mix well.

A bit about the ingredients:

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is very hydrating. It’s a medium-chain fatty acid, which means it’s also anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. That’s why it works for things like wound-healing and acne. It also contains polyphenols, which are antioxidant and tissue-supportive, so that’s why it works for things like stretch marks. Read more.

Sweet Almond Oil: Sweet Almond Oil has Vitamin E and Vitamin A to promote healing, fatty acids, zinc, and other minerals. It has cleansing properties, and is generally hypoallergenic. Make sure you get SWEET and not bitter. Read more.

Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree is an amazing oil to keep in the house, because it’s used for so many things, including acne, psoriasis, MRSA, rashes, ringworm, and more. I know I’ve used it probably for ten different issues in the last year… I just had to order another bottle! Read more.
